Volunteering Programs
As high lighted before; ‘the Digital Divide Bridge’ strives to bridge the gap between those who are empowered with and those without computer knowledge or skills; we pass on skills to people in the camp of Kyaka II refugee settlement, the vulnerable children and youths in Uganda East Africa. We reach out to people and areas with less reach of computer skills. These we offer computer lessons for free at our workshops in Ggomba District and Mityana District of Uganda plus the Kyaka II refugee camp. Ranging from basic to advanced skills.
The difference between those who have and those who don’t have defines the gap. This gap goes further to elaborate that we have people who have 2 or more laptops/computers/tabs that they don’t need. Others dispose these off or keep them in places where they will never pick them up for use. In our society we have people who don’t have but would need it for learning, empowering, researching and getting skills. The Digital Divide Bridge exists to connect this digital gap.
In our out reaches, we meet a number of people willing to have the skills. But like you can see, we are limited by skill personally.
We are seeking out for volunteers to help us offer especially through offering online classes to expand the computer programing classes among the less privileged children in our areas of operations. The one hour a week that you may give may make a very great difference.
We as well are looking for volunteers to support us in developing software platform that will uplift the local vulnerable in the following ways:
- help local farmers reach and interact with the best market for their farm product;
- help local herdsmen connect to the best market;
- help the local farmers and herdsmen connect to the pesticides and medicines shops (e.g., scan through a given part of the animal or plant and find the possible diseases and solution);
- enable look farmers connect to best source of information.
These we want to develop and offer to the locals at a free of charge after training them on how to use them and helping them get suitable smart phones.
