Smart Irrigation Systems

The Novus Terra Digital Hub is actively engaged in implementing various initiatives in Gomba Kanoni District, Uganda. We have conducted a comprehensive needs assessment among local farmers to understand their current irrigation practices, water usage challenges, and crop needs. Additionally, we are collaborating closely with farmers, agricultural cooperatives, and community leaders to discuss the benefits of smart irrigation systems and garner support for our initiative.

Our team has researched and selected suitable smart irrigation technologies tailored to the local climate, soil conditions, and agricultural practices in Gomba Kanoni District. We are adapting these technologies to meet the specific needs and preferences of farmers, ensuring affordability, scalability, and ease of use.

Furthermore, we have developed training programs and workshops to educate farmers about the benefits and operation of smart irrigation systems. Through hands-on training sessions, we are equipping farmers with the skills to install, configure, and manage the smart irrigation equipment effectively.

To provide ongoing support, we have established a helpdesk and hotline where farmers can seek guidance, troubleshoot issues, and access additional resources related to smart irrigation technology. We are also working closely with pilot farms in the district to demonstrate the effectiveness of smart irrigation systems in conserving water and enhancing crop productivity.

Monitoring and evaluation are integral parts of our approach. We are closely monitoring the performance and impact of smart irrigation systems on participating farms, collecting feedback from farmers, and measuring key indicators such as water savings, crop yields, and income generation. This allows us to continuously evaluate the effectiveness of our initiatives and identify areas for improvement or expansion.

Through knowledge sharing initiatives, we are sharing success stories and best practices from pilot farms with other farmers and agricultural stakeholders in Gomba Kanoni District. This includes field demonstrations, workshops, and community meetings to facilitate peer-to-peer learning and encourage broader adoption of smart irrigation technology across the district.
